The 180 Interpreter Training Course
The 180 Interpreter Training Course is a 2-year part-time taught programme. The first year consists of 20 days of tuition over 10 weekends. The second year incorporates 10 days of training, coaching and NVQ evidence collecting. In total the course has 180 hours of contact time - hence the name.
On successfully completing the course and the assessment process, students will achieve an Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting and be eligible to register as a Member of the Register of Sign Language Interpreters (MRSLI). We will support students’ applications to register as Junior Trainee Interpreter (JTI) and Trainee Interpreter (TI) as appropriate through the course.
The curriculum and structure of the 180 Interpreter Training Course has been specifically designed to be flexible giving the freedom necessary to create a bespoke package, tailored to each student’s needs regardless of background or experience within the domain of BSL/English Interpreting. This course aims to enable students to exceed the requirements of the National Occupational Standards in Interpreting.
The next course will start in September 2012 with the
students expected to register as MRSLI in autumn 2014.
The course will be taught in Sheffield, just off the M1 at the Aston Hotel
